Principal's Message

To The PES Family,

Closing out a school year is a hectic and fast paced time of year, and this year was no exception, but it was different.  As the days ticked toward the end of the year, our usual tasks brought mixed emotions. Mrs.Reddick and I were not just closing out the year, we were closing our stay at Portal Elementary School and beginning our transition to Mattie Lively Elementary School as its new administrative team next year.  It has truly been our honor and privilege to lead Portal Elementary School these past three years.

Mrs. Reddick is leaving a legacy of nearly 21 years as a teacher and administrator at PES.  She taught two years of fifth grade, seven years of fourth grade and one year in third grade before developing our intervention program and becoming our Intervention Specialist.  Mrs. Reddick often smiles and tells me tales of watching students grow from Pre-kindergarteners to Seniors and all the joy that has brought her. Mrs. Reddick is a Portal High School graduate herself and has loved the community all of her life. I know, without a doubt, that her love for Portal, its families, and being a Panther, lives deep in her heart and always will.

My time here has been much shorter, but no less fulfilling.  From my beginnings as the Assistant Principal, to my current role as Principal, I have cherished my time here.  In the past seven years, Portal Elementary has made tremendous gains: new programs unique toPES, such as All School Exploratory and Celebration Assemblies, have taken off, our PTO has been revived and continues to grow, and our students’ academic achievement continues its upward path.  And I am most grateful for the trust placed in me during our more challenging times. We truly lived up to our guiding principles: Persevere. Excel. Succeed.

Whether it’s being a good friend, never giving up, or even “Flossing”, Mrs. Reddick and I hope you never stop doing things, #PantherStyle!     We both hope you will look back at the time we spent with you - students, parents, and staff - and smile. We certainly will. There are great adventures ahead for all of us next school year:  New friends to make, new things to learn, and new places to go. I wish you lots of laughter and fun on your journey, and will miss being a part of the PES Adventures. As one of my favorite characters, Winnie the Pooh said, “How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.”

With Love & Best Wishes,
